Introducing math functions

Due to popular demand, Scriblink has added a new feature that allows you to enter math symbols and functions. To do this, simply click on the "Pi" symbol in the toolbar.

A new tabbed toolbar will appear to the left of the board, allowing you to choose between math symbols, functions, and unique characters. From here, simply click which symbol you want to use.

You'll notice that when you click a symbol, script will appear in dark purple. By typing directly into this text box, you can make entire equations using multiple symbols.

When you're ready, click on the image of the equation you created, wait a second, and it will appear onto the whiteboard in the same way any image you upload would.

If you need more direction, click on the help tab and read on.

I can understand the demand for this new feature. But it takes much longer for the characters to be embedded. I can draw a symbol like that easily myself much quicker. I don't know if it is only a problem with my slow computer though.

Besides, is it possible to use the size function to enlarge the symbols we embed?

Hi zy,

We had a lot of demand from tutoring sites for something that would allow for easy equation importing. Although it may be easy to draw some symbols, others can be quite complex. The new service makes each equations neater and gives users the ability to write out everything on one line (ie. you can add "+" and numbers, etc. within the equation). At the moment it is not possible to modify the size of the image but this is something we are looking into. As for the feature being slow, we haven't experienced any issues on our end but if anyone else is having problems please let us know.

Thanks for the feedback!

As a LaTeX-Fan I find it awesome that formulas can be embedded. BUT: whenever I type a + Symbol, it is only shown in the little preview but not on the whiteboard!?

I have the same problem as anonymous with the vanishing "+" signs. Please correct this defect as soon as possible as it makes the tool impossible to use.

Thanks.

Hi! Could an "upload .pdf" feature be added? Or the option to scroll through an image or .pdf?

I pray your service will thrive as it is EXACTLY what I was looking for as an online teacher!

It would be really great if we could select an object and move or size it. This would make the tool much easier to use.

Thanks.

The formula toolbar certainly is great! Another good feature to add would be a simple arrow tool. Right now, it's pretty difficult to make flowcharts without drawing each arrow myself.....

Again, though, thanks for the great service that's free!

Those math functions are great. Especially once you learn the typing shortcuts.

Thanks for a great product!

I'm new to scriblink and I'm getting some very strange results with the math functions!

LaTex typed into the markup window will usually be rendered correctly in the preview window (except occasionally, when I get the message "We will report your hack at[tempt?]"!

But frequently, even when the image preview is correct, clicking on it will not copy it into the whiteboard window. Sometimes clicking produces no effect; sometimes I get a box saying "Equation image will be shown here," even with a good image in the preview.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

There seems to be an issue with it not behaving like everything else. Anything I put down seems to be behind the white board. Meaning equations don't disappear when the screen is cleared and if any marks are underneath a problem they'll be on top when the problem is placed.

Help?

I'm using Google Chrome if that's doing anything.

try double clicking the item you imported.

I was recently using this feature to collaborate on some research with a colleague. We were looking at some large equations which a) spilled past the border on the preview preventing me from checking whether it was correct before posting, b)it would not copy into the whiteboard screen.
There needs to be some sort of error indication in the editor box to assist with large equations.
As far as ZY's comment, being familiar with latex syntax I find it much faster to type than draw. It certainly looks much nicer through tex.
